The Government of Ontario released a 3-stage framework for a gradual approach to reopening of workplaces in the province on April 27, 2020. While there is no set date for when non-essential services can resume, the College is providing a few resources to assist RDTs in preparing.

Guidance for RDTs
A guidance document has been developed to assist RDTs in making the appropriate considerations for returning to practice. Keep in mind that this guidance should be read in conjunction the Infection Prevention and Control Standard and the College’s Standards and Practice Advisories. When will RDTs be able to return to practice?
Ontario has yet to announce when non-emergency healthcare services can resume. The College will keep RDTs informed of new information and direction. RDTs can also remain current with the Government of Ontario’s news.
When non-emergency healthcare services can resume, each RDT will need to use their professional judgement to determine whether it is safe for them to return to practice. They will need to consider factors such as their personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies and workplace configuration.
As an employee, what is my right to return to practice during COVID-19?
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1990 employers must take precautions to keep workers safe. As a worker, you also have the right to refuse unsafe work.

If you have concerns about your health and safety that your employer is not addressing, you can file a complaint with the Health and Safety Contact Centre at 1-877-202-0008.
Where can I find infection prevention and control resources?
Public Health Ontario has resources for COVID-19 and fundamental infection and prevention control practices. Participation in these courses can count towards your professional development credits. See the College’s Continuing Professional Development Guidelines for more information.
Where can I find information about personal protective equipment (PPE) suppliers in Ontario?
The Government of Ontario released a directory to support businesses in accessing PPE. The needs of frontline health care workers and first responders will be prioritized. PPE should be used appropriately to prevent unnecessary use of limited supplies and other PPE resources. The College is not able to recommend or approve certain types/brands of PPE or suppliers.
