April 30th marked the last official day of National Oral Health Month in Canada. Throughout the month, the College of Dental Technologists of Ontario (CDTO) actively engaged on our social media platforms, bringing awareness to the essential role RDTs play in providing safe, quality oral health care.

The importance of oral health in our overall health and well-being cannot be overstated. As quoted by the Minister of Health on April 15, 2024, “April is Oral Health Month in Canada, an opportunity to highlight the essential role oral health plays in our overall health and well-being. This month also provides an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding care provided by Canada’s six regulated oral health professions including dental therapists, dental assistants, denturists, dental technologists, dental hygienists, and dentists and thank them for the exceptional services they provide every day.”

Although National Oral Health Month comes to an end, the contributions of RDTs within the patients circle of accessible oral health care continues throughout the year. Their work is not confined to just a month but is evident every day in the smiles of the Canadians they serve. It is important to remember that the end of April does not mean we forget the significant role these professionals play in delivering the highest standards of oral health care.

CDTO would also like to emphasize the strong partnerships between the college, various health associations, and health professionals. These collaborations are crucial as they help identify and address emerging issues in oral health, ensuring that we serve the public’s best interests effectively.

Let’s carry the spirit of National Oral Health Month throughout the year by recognizing the ongoing dedication and service provided by our RDTs and oral health professionals.
