We are rescinding the COVID-19: Guidance for Registered Dental Technologists after assessing current trends and available evidence. The other Ontario oral health regulatory Colleges (OHC), representing dental hygienists, dentists, and denturists, will also be rescinding their guidance. We continue our collaborative efforts to monitor public health indicators and maintain ongoing alignment on this issue.
Public health indicators in Ontario continue to show signs of improvement. Public Health Ontario’s COVID-19 tool shows that case counts and rates are declining, while vaccination rates remain high. We are relying on provincial and national public health authorities to communicate COVID-19-specific guidance for healthcare settings and practitioners.
RDTs are expected to:

Comply with COVID-19-specific guidance set out by provincial and national public health authorities.

Continue to avoid the in-person care of patients who are suspected or confirmed COVID-19 positive, unless in an urgent or emergency situation that cannot be avoided.

Adhere to the College’s current Infection Prevention and Control Standards.

Be mindful of the possibility of future public health emergencies and maintain the ability to respond nimbly to new risks that may emerge.
