The Canadian and Ontario governments are closely monitoring the emergence of COVID-19. As with any public health issue, it is important that the information you obtain is accurate and reliable. The College is working to provide Registered Dental Technologists with updates and information to assist them in their practice. Read the CDTO’s guidelines and measures on the outbreak of COVID-19.

Please continue to check these websites for the most up-to-date information about COVID-19:

The Ministry of Health has a hotline for health workers and health sector employers who require advice or support: 1-866-212-2272.

If you elect to continue to provide dental technology services you are to take every necessary precaution. The College’s Standard of Practice: Infection Prevention & Control, (September 22, 2017) sets out the expectation of its Members in regards to the prevention of transmission of infectious diseases and procedures for infection prevention/control in the dental technology practice.

On March 15, 2020, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) strongly recommended to its Members that “all non-essential and elective dental services should be suspended immediately. Emergency treatment should continue.”

RCDSO defines a “true emergency situation”, in dentistry as: “trauma, significant infection, prolonged bleeding or pain which cannot be managed by over-the-counter medications.” Read more at: A message to all dentists in Ontario – COVID-19 Pandemic.

Public safety is our number one concern. The CDTO is in full support of this action of the RCDSO. CDTO does not have the ability to shut down dental technology laboratories. We suggest suspending non-essential services that involve direct patient contact. Public interest and safety depends on our members to act in a socially responsible matter.

Please note that the College is available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to answer your questions. We will be unable to help you with employment issues but welcome all other calls. Due to higher than normal volume of emails and calls to the College, you may experience longer response times. Your patience is appreciated.

IMPORTANT: The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve – please make yourself aware of any updates made by Public Health Ontario and the Ministry of Health.

Thank you
