On April 21, the College received an update that the Chief Medical Officer of Health has reissued Directive #2 for Health Care Providers.
This version of Directive #2 is intended to preserve human resources for redeployment and to stop procedures that could tax intensive care resources. It requires all non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures to cease, with the exception of surgeries and procedures performed in pediatric specialty hospitals. Emergent and urgent surgeries will not be impacted. All patients should continue to have access to other health services.
Our understanding, as confirmed in discussions with other regulatory partners, is that there will be no change or restriction to the scope of practice of dental technologists practicing in the community. RDTs are reminded to follow enhanced precautions outlined in Return to Practice Guidance for RDTs and Infection Prevention and Control.
