June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize and honour the rich histories, cultures, traditions, resilience, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
This month is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation. The Government of Canada recognizes National Indigenous History Month as a time to learn about the unique cultures, traditions, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, whose presence continues to shape Canada today.
At the College of Dental Technologists of Ontario, our public protection mandate is grounded in accountability, fairness, and trust. CDTO serves and protects the public interest by regulating the profession of dental technology in Ontario, including supporting the ongoing competency and accountability of Registered Dental Technologists.
As part of this work, CDTO remains committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity across the College. Our strategic priorities include incorporating EDI principles into all aspects of the College’s work, fostering continuous learning and reflection, and advancing equitable regulation in dental technology services in Ontario.
Throughout June, we encourage registrants, partners, and members of the public to take time to listen, learn, reflect, and engage with resources created by Indigenous Peoples and communities. Meaningful reconciliation requires ongoing learning, humility, and action, not only during National Indigenous History Month, but throughout the year.
