As we approach National Indigenous Peoples Day on Saturday, June 21, The CDTO invites our registrants and the broader dental technology community to reflect on the rich cultures, histories, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
This important day offers all Canadians an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Indigenous perspectives and to honour the resilience, wisdom, and strength of Indigenous communities. Reconciliation begins with truth, education, listening, and acknowledging the ongoing impacts of colonialism and systemic inequities.
CDTO’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity (EDI-I) is embedded in our strategic direction. As a health regulatory body, we continue to reflect on and support the seven health-related Calls to Action outlined in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 2015 Report, working to advance equity and dismantle systemic barriers in healthcare.
We encourage all dental technologists and health professionals to take time leading up to June 21 to learn from Indigenous voices, engage in meaningful reflection, and participate in community-led events and educational opportunities.
Together, let us walk the path of reconciliation grounded in respect, truth, and shared commitment to a more inclusive future.
