The College of Dental Technologists of Ontario (CDTO) has developed and published a verified list of commercial dental laboratories in Ontario where Registered Dental Technologists (RDTs) are authorized to supervise and are accountable for the delivery of dental technology services. This initiative supports the College’s mandate to protect the public and assist dentists and other oral health professionals in meeting their regulatory obligations.

As a regulated health professional, it is essential to ensure that the dental laboratory services you rely on are delivered in accordance with Ontario’s regulatory framework. Patients have the right to know which commercial dental laboratory is involved in their care, and to have confidence that the laboratory is authorized and appropriately supervised.

To support safe, ethical, and competent care, the College strongly encourages all dentists and other oral health professionals to:

  • Ensure that the commercial dental laboratories you are working with are on the CDTO’s Verified List
(This list will be reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis)

  • Check the CDTO’s Public Register for real time information to confirm the status of the RDT and the commercial dental laboratory.
  • E-mail the College at practiceadvisory@cdto.ca if you are not able to locate the commercial dental laboratory name on the verified list or the supervising RDT on the CDTO Public Register.

Dentists and other oral health professionals are reminded to look for the 3 identifiers that RDTs are required to apply on all documentation related to dental technology services requested, which are:

  1. The full name of the RDT, as listed on the CDTO’s Public Register
  2. The registration number of the RDT, as it appears on the CDTO’s Public Register
  3. The full professional title, clearly stated as: “Registered Dental Technologist”

You are strongly encouraged to e-mail the College at practiceadvisory@cdto.ca if you are not able to locate the commercial dental laboratory name on the verified list, the supervising RDT on the CDTO Public Register or the required identifiers on documentation.

Your commitment to verifying RDT oversight is not just a regulatory obligation. It is a statement of your dedication to safe, accountable and professional oral health care.
