New campaign highlights the role of dental technology in safe, accountable oral health care and directs Ontarians to key public-protection resources.
In recognition of Oral Health Month 2026, the College of Dental Technologists of Ontario is launching a public awareness campaign to help Ontarians better understand the role of dental technology in oral health care and the importance of safe, accountable practice.
Dental technology is often part of oral health treatments that happen behind the scenes. CDTO’s communications strategy identifies the public as people who have undergone, are undergoing, or are considering oral health treatments that involve the expertise of dental technologists, and it commits the College to annual awareness efforts on dental technology, unauthorized practice, and reporting pathways.
As Ontario’s regulator of dental technologists, CDTO protects the public by overseeing the profession of dental technology and by supporting high standards of competency, ethics, and accountability among Registered Dental Technologists. This campaign is designed to strengthen public understanding of that role and to support informed decision-making by patients, oral health professionals, and system partners.
Throughout April, the campaign will share plain-language information about:
- dental technology and its connection to oral health care
- the role of Registered Dental Technologists
- how regulation supports accountability and public protection
- where to find CDTO’s public-facing tools and resources
The campaign also connects visitors to practical resources available through CDTO, including the Public Register, the verified commercial dental laboratory list, and guidance that helps oral health professionals identify authorized, accountable dental technology services. CDTO’s broader awareness and risk materials emphasize the importance of helping the public and system partners understand unauthorized practice, reporting pathways, patient safety, and accountability.
CDTO invites members of the public, registrants, dentists, and other oral health professionals to visit the new Oral Health Month page and explore the resources available throughout the month.
