Strategy and Accountability

Our EDI strategy

Incorporate EDI-I principles into all aspects of the College’s work, fostering a culture of continuous learning and reflection, and develop an EDI roadmap and resources to support our efforts.

EDI-I Domain

Our EDI-I focused domain will demonstrate our firm dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the College, advocating for equitable regulation, and advancing EDI in dental technology services in Ontario.

EDI Pillars:

As we continue to take the steps to executing our vision to support EDI initiatives, we have focused on making progress in three main pillars. Focusing on both the public and our registrants, we are focused to drive the conversation around EDI in all of these pillars to develop a concrete outline and make progress towards advancing initiatives at the College.

  1. Education and Training: CDTO is committed to imparting knowledge and skills about EDI topics through training and education to our staff, boards, committees and registrants, as we continue to change the attitude, culture and status quo. Our training sessions promote the understanding and literacy of diversity topics which impact how we communicate with both the public and our registrants.
  2. EDI Organizational Self-Assessment Tool and Equity Impact Assessment: As a member of the Health Professions Regulators of Ontario (HPRO), we recognize our commitment to the protection of patients in the public interest. As part of HPRO’s Anti-Racism in Health Regulation Project, CDTO is actively working to use organizational self-assessment tools and work through guidelines and initiatives to move beyond awareness and education to skill development and action. This also includes the ongoing implementation of an Equity Impact Assessment tool to inform policy development.
  3. External Partnership and Outreach: CDTO has focused on building meaningful relationships with external organizations, system partners and equity-deserving groups to support and compliment the successful delivery of our EDI goals, including policies. To support the development and implementation, we are seeking constant feedback and are actively participating to inform our current and future initiatives to advance EDI within the College. In partnership with HPRO’s EDI Network and other diversity champions, we are working to effectively and sustainably lead these initiatives.

The CDTO’s Strategic Plan 2023-2025 will work to support the expansion and embedding of EDI practices into each of the pillars and to catalyze the change. In the coming years, we’ll work towards accomplishing the objectives outlined in this plan and update the plan as action items are completed and new actions are identified.
