Labour Mobility Route
This credentialing route is available for applicants who are registered as a Registered Dental Technologist/Technician (RDT), Dental Technologist/Technician (DT) or Technologue en Prothèses et Appareils Dentaires (TPAD) with a Canadian Dental Technology Regulator (DTR).
Step One- Ensure you meet the requirements for Labour Mobility
To qualify under the Labour Mobility provisions of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement you must:
- Hold a current, active and equivalent certificate of registration in one of the following provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Quebec.
- Provide evidence of good standing at the time you apply for a General Certificate of Registration with the CDTO. That is, after successfully completing the Jurisprudence & Ethics exam (Step Two).
Accepted evidence of good standing is a completed Authorization Form (Section 2), completed by each DTR where you are currently registered and sent directly to CDTO. You are responsible for paying any applicable fees directly to the DTR. Completed Authorization Forms are valid for three (3) months from date of issue.
Authorization Forms completed by the DTR and sent directly to CDTO and are valid for a period of three (3) months from date of issue.

Step Two – Prepare to Register with the College
- Create an account through the Online Applicant Portal with CDTO
- Register and pay for the Jurisprudence & Ethics exam
- Complete successfully the Jurisprudence & Ethics exam

Step Three – Apply to register with CDTO for General Certificate of Registration
- Complete Online Application
- Update profile Information and complete declarations
- Pay New Application Evaluation and Processing Fee (non-refundable)
- Upload required documents

Step Four – Register with CDTO
Once you have submitted your online application the college will review your application for completeness and will notify you of the outcome.
APPROVED
If your application is complete and you meet all of the registration requirements you will receive an email notification to complete the final step: payment of the registration fee. Once payment is confirmed you will receive email confirmation of registration with the College and your registration number.
It is important to note that before you are legally authorized to practice the profession in Ontario and can use the protected title Registered Dental Technologist or RDT you must obtain Professional Liability Insurance (PLI).
Your wall certificate (General Certificate of Registration) and RDT Stamp will be sent to you by mail/courier.
INCOMPLETE
If your application is incomplete the College will contact you to help resolve any outstanding items, obtain clarification of information provided in your application or request additional documentation.
NOT APPROVED
If you do not meet all of the registration requirements the Registrar will refer your application to the Registration Committee for review. You will be notified in writing of the referral and reasons for referral and be advised of your right to make written submissions within 30 days of receiving notice. The Panel of the Registration Committee will review your file including submissions received and render a decision and provide a Decisions and reasons, including information on appeals.
