The College of Dental Technologists of Ontario (CDTO), in collaboration with the Canadian Alliance of Dental Technology Regulators (CADTR), is excited to announce the launch of the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Pilot Program, a new initiative designed to recognize the valuable skills and experience of dental lab professionals across Ontario.

Do you work alongside talented dental lab associates with:

  • Over 5 years of hands-on experience, or
  • At least 6,500 verified hours in dental technology?
Are they skilled in prostheses, crown and bridge, CAS partials dentures, or orthodontics?

This is their chance to gain formal recognition through an alternative licensing pathway—without returning to traditional academic routes.

The PLAR Pilot Offers:
  • Recognition of experience-based competencies
  • A roadmap to close any training gaps
  • A way to build a stronger, licensed workforce in your lab
  • Free application for the first 50 eligible candidates

We encourage RDTs and lab managers to help spread awareness of this initiative, which plays a vital role in shaping a future-ready profession grounded in quality, expertise, and accessibility.
